Should the Festival have gone ahead uninterrupted, we would have been pairing visual artists with venues throughout the village to transform our cafes, restaurants, library, pubs and more into galleries. Instead, some of the artists in our area have kindly agreed to share their work in a Virtual Gallery- enjoy!
Mary Rose Keane
I am an Irish Artist originally from Donegal, now based in Co Galway, on the wild atlantic way.
My inspiration comes from everyday moments, people, conversations, the wonder of nature. With a background in social work, I am also very aware of the difficulties and and sometimes insurmountable challenges some have to endure. On a positive I see the resilience and inner strength people possess to overcome adversity and build a positive life for themselves. This inspires me think about the power of the mind and positive thoughts and the power our mind can have over how we choose to see and live our lives.
There is so much we are unaware of and unlocking the unconscious mind.
My art is experimental and and about mark making, seeing where it goes rather than following a plan. This process leads to free uninhibited expression.
I’m an Irish artist living and working in Galway in the West of Ireland. I have lived and worked in some very diverse places throughout my life, including Lebanon, Egypt, Germany, Hawaii, Canada and Australia. These wonderful travel opportunities have been opened up my eyes to an amazing world of colour, design, pattern and art. I’m happily settled now in the countryside outside Galway city.
My studio is situated in an area known for its marshy lowlands, rocky limestone fields and turloughs. These turloughs or vanishing lakes have been a constant source of inspiration in my work since I graduated with my degree in Fine Art from CCAM in GMIT Galway.
Pools, reflections, straggly grasses and mossy lichens are motifs that I use in my work which lies somewhere between abstraction and representation.
Working in either oils or acrylics, I like to build up layers of paint with lots of glazing and delicate mark-making to create colourful, ethereal paintings on wood panels and canvas.
My name is Sarah, I’m from Sligo but moved to Galway 2 years ago. I have always enjoyed art as a hobby but never studied it after secondary school. I work in childcare in Oranmore and love to incorporate my love of art into the curriculum I use with the kids in my job.
Shauna is a 17 year old student at Calasanctius College.
Hello, my name is Caz, I’m a tattoo artist working in Galway Bay Tattoo in Galway city.
Since the lockdown has begun I’ve been branching out to oil painting, both to further myself and for people who have requested commissions. I sometimes work with other media such as spray painting and designing skateboards when I have the time.
I’m 37 years old living in Rinville, Oranmore. I have always had a keen eye and interest in Art for as long as I can remember. I studied Art and Design following on from school but never perused it. Two years ago I decided to try and take it up again, as a pastime for myself and I’m so delighted I did, as I had forgotten just how enjoyable and therapeutic getting lost in a creation can be…
I like to work with oils, building up textures with anything from sand to varnishes and applying multiple layers of paint.
